Franklin Butler and Edward McCarty. Continued the business of James Peters & Co. when that firm dissolved in 1850. Operated at 131 N. 2nd St. in Philadelphia. The firm added Henry O. Hulbert in January 1868 and was reorganized as "Butler, McCarty & Co."
An advertisement in the July 19, 1867 issue of the Philadelphia Inquirier offered "Engle's Patent Case" and suggests Butler & McCarty were the sole agent in Philadelphia ("For sale, in this city only, by Butler & McCarty").
